If Sarah Palin played a loud, grinding instrument, she would be in my band. The independent patriotic spirit, attitude and soul of our forefathers are alive and well in Sarah. In the way she lives, what she says and how she dedicates herself to make America better in these interesting times, she represents the good, while exposing the bad and ugly. She embraces the critical duty of we the people by participating in this glorious experiment in self-government. The tsunami of support proves that Sarah, 46, represents what many Americans know to be common and sensible. Her rugged individualism, self-reliance and a herculean work ethic resonate now more than ever in a country spinning away from these basics that made the U.S.A. the last best place. We who are driven to be assets to our families, communities and our beloved country connect with the principles that Sarah Palin embodies. We know that bureaucrats and, even more, Fedzilla, are not the solution; they are the problem. I'd be proud to share a moose-barbecue campfire with the Palin family anytime, so long as I can shoot the moose.

House Approves Puerto Rico Statehood Measure

The House voted Thursday to allow Puerto Ricans to decide their own political future and relationship with the United States.

The bill passed 223-169 and now must be taken up by the Senate. 

The bill introduced a two-step ballot measure for Puerto Rico to decide if its residents want to change their current relationship with the United States. If they vote to change their status, they can then choose to become a state, pursue independence, or seek some other "political association between sovereign nations." ‬  

Puerto Rico became a U.S. territory at the end of the Spanish-American War. Those born on the island were granted U.S. citizenship in 1917 and Puerto Rico gained commonwealth status in 1952.

Today, Puerto Ricans serve in the military but can't vote in presidential elections. They do not pay federal income tax on income earned on the island.

The issue divided Democrats and Republicans alike as liberal Democrats with ties to Puerto Rico teamed with conservative Republicans to oppose the measure.Proponents say the measure gives citizens of the island the right to self-determination.‬  Critics say the measure is a device to impose statehood on a population that doesn't want it.  Thursday's action was nonbinding, and if Puerto Ricans eventually select statehood, Congress would still have to vote to admit the island to the union as the 51st state.  

The divides were particularly stark among members of the House Republican leadership team. House Minority Leader John Boehner,R-Ohio, voted against the legislation. Meantime, House Minority Whip Eric Cantor, R-Va., and Republican Conference Chairman Mike Pence, R-Ind., voted in favor.

Puerto Rico Gov. Luis Fortuno (R) cobbled together more than 50 Republican sponsors in favor of the package.

But there was drama as the majority Democrats narrowly avoided an upset on the House floor.

Republicans attempted to add provisions to the legislation that would have made English the official language of a potential Puerto Rican state.

Republicans also tried to modify the bill by banning any infringement of the Second Amendment in Puerto Rico.

The Democratic majority defeated the GOP effort, 198-194.

Right now, something is happening in America that, try as they might, liberal Democrats and their shills in the mainstream media can't stop simply by distorting or ignoring it.

Call it a backlash. Call it a counter-revolution. Call it a conservative comeback. Call it what you will -- but it's real, it's massive, and it's now boiling over into something the liberals can't deny any longer.

What's driving this extraordinary phenomenon? In a word -- outrage.

After trusting Barack Obama's soothing promises, and the media's constant reassurances, that once in office he would "transcend" partisan politics, Americans quickly realized they had elected the most radical leftist ever to serve as President of the United States.

They also realized that for all Obama's talk of "transparency" and "accountability," his administration was creating the conditions for a level of political sleaze, corruption and back-room wheeling-and-dealing far worse than anything Washington has seen in a very long time.

And now that the gap between Obama's smooth-talking rhetoric and his actual performance has finally become plain to anyone but the most besotted of his admirers, Americans have had enough.

They have had enough of Obama's crusade to force a multi-trillion-dollar health-care “reform” on America, replacing private healthcare with a government-run system that will empower federal bureaucrats to make life-and-death decisions about your medical care.

They have had enough of the out-of-control spending on bailouts and "stimulus" that have sent the federal deficit soaring to $1.8 trillion for 2009 alone -- and even higher down the road -- threatening to bankrupt our nation, destroy our currency, and impoverish our descendents for generations to come

They have had enough of the outrageous threats to investigate and prosecute Bush-era anti-terrorist agents and officials for the heroic work they did in keeping our country safe -- while giving confessed terrorists like 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheik Muhammed a civilian trial in NYC

They have had enough of Obama's proposed tax hikes and tax "surcharges" to pay for all his spending programs that will drive U.S. tax rates higher even than the welfare-state economies of Europe (New Yorkers, for instance, could face a combined federal-state income tax rate of nearly 60 percent)

They have had enough of the appalling rogue's gallery of crooks, cronies, tax cheats, and political big-spending leftists that Obama has appointed to the highest levels of our government -- while firing or abruptly "retiring" official government watchdogs who have blown the whistle on his cronies and their schemes

They have had enough of the endless procession of unelected "czars" President Obama has appointed -- 32 at last count! -- to bring one sector after another of our economy and government under his direct control (come to think of it, why don't we just call him "Czar Obama"?)

They have had enough, in short, of how President Obama and his allies are rapidly destroying so much of what has made our country prosperous and free -- while arrogating to themselves a degree of power that would make Hugo Chavez blush.

And what about you, my friend? Have you had enough? Are you ready to join the swelling ranks of Americans who are determined to put a stop to this madness? Are you ready to add your voice to theirs in demanding an end to this assault on our liberties... an end to this era of fiscal insanity... an end to this government "of the cronies, by the cronies, and for the cronies"?

If you are -- if you are among those who refuse to tolerate even for one more daywhat is happening in our nation's capital, then I have only one thing to ask of you...

Solution to Killer Superbug Found in Norway

OSLO, Norway—Aker University Hospital is a dingy place to heal. The floors
are streaked and scratched. A light layer of dust coats the blood pressure
monitors. A faint stench of urine and bleach wafts from a pile of soiled
bedsheets dropped in a corner.

Look closer, however, at a microscopic level, and this place is pristine.
There is no sign of a dangerous and contagious staph infection that killed
tens of thousands of patients in the most sophisticated hospitals of
Europe, North America and Asia this year, soaring virtually unchecked.

The reason: Norwegians stopped taking so many drugs.

Twenty-five years ago, Norwegians were also losing their lives to this
bacteria. But Norway's public health system fought back with an aggressive
program that made it the most infection-free country in the world. A key
part of that program was cutting back severely on the use of antibiotics.

Now a spate of new studies from around the world prove that Norway's model
can be replicated with extraordinary success, and public health experts are
saying these deaths — 19,000 in the U.S. each year alone, more than from
AIDS — are unnecessary.

"It's a very sad situation that in some places so many are dying from this,
because we have shown here in Norway that Methicillin-resistant
Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) can be controlled, and with not too much
effort," said Jan Hendrik-Binder, Oslo's MRSA medical adviser. "But you
have to take it seriously, you have to give it attention, and you must not
give up."

The World Health Organization says antibiotic resistance is one of the
leading public health threats on the planet. A six-month investigation by
The Associated Press found overuse and misuse of medicines has led to
mutations in once curable diseases like tuberculosis and malaria, making
them harder and in some cases impossible to treat.
